What if my child has special needs or previously had an IEP?

If your child is unique in their needs, homeschooling is the ultimate "special education". You can tailor their education to address their learning style, needs, and strengths.

Some students will require outside services (e.g., speech, OT, PT, etc.) Occasionally, schools agree to provide services, but it is completely up to the individual school district.

If your child previously had an IEP, you must get written approval of their educational objectives before submitting them to the district. I will approve objectives for the following school year at the end-of-year evaluation at no extra cost or can do so at another time for a small fee.

From the PDE Website:

For any child identified by the provisions of the Education of the Handicapped Act as amended by the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA) as needing special education services (excluding those identified as gifted and/or talented), the program must address the specific needs of the student with a disability and be approved by a teacher with a valid certificate from the Commonwealth to teach special education or a licensed clinical or certified school psychologist. Written notification of approval must be submitted with the unsworn declaration or notarized affidavit (24 P.S. § 13-1327(d)).
