WHAT HAPPENS AT AN EVALUATION?

Typically, I will asked your child a few questions about their year and have them choose some samples from the portfolio to share with me. I will look through the portfolio, sign the evaluation form, and answer any questions that you have. There is no reason to be nervous and most families enjoy the experience.
IS THERE A CHANCE MY CHILD WILL FAIL THE EVALUATION?

It is not my role to assign grades. The role of an evaluator is clear in the law and requires an interview of the child and a review of the portfolio. If it is clear that your child is being taught, is making progress, and that you are fulfilling the requirements of the law, I will sign an evaluation stating that an appropriate education is occurring.

If you there is an aspect of your program that is not in compliance with the law, we will discuss this and come up with a plan to remedy the issue. There are very few reasons that I will not sign an evaluation if reasonable effort has been made by the supervisor and student.
WHY DO YOU CHARGE FOR YOUR SERVICES?

Sometimes free evaluation events are organized for local families. There is nothing wrong with these and I encourage you to attend if this is a convenient option. I have been an evaluator at these events. To me, the they feel rushed and impersonal and are often crowded. As a result, evaluators are pushed to complete evaluations as quickly as possible.

As your evaluator, I enjoy getting to know you and your child(ren) and tailoring my guidance to your specific needs. Additionally, I am available to answer your questions year round.

Please know that I will not turn anyone away if there are financial hardships. Contact me and we will work it out!
WHAT IF WE ARE NOT DONE WITH OUR COURSES OR GRADE LEVEL WORK?

This is a question I am often asked. The beauty of homeschooling is that it is truly individualized. As long as you are putting in the hours/days required by law, it does not matter whether your child completes an entire course in a year. Children learn and progress at their own pace. Put the work in, but if your child needs to review a concept more or wants to take a deep dive in to a particular area, go for it!
